Mists

WHAT ARE MISTS?

Ectoplasm/Ectomist

Ectoplasm was first used to describe the substance that physical mediums would exude during séances, but today it is used to describe cloudy mists or fog often witnessed during alleged paranormal activity.

These mists are usually grey or white in colour and quite often displayed in a swirl type effect.

They are said to be able to linger or travel quite quickly at will and have a wax type composition which is warm to the touch.

Some people say that it is formed from airborne particles such as dust and moisture which an entity manipulates to manifest itself. Others say it is due to an electromagnetic disturbance caused by a spirit.

Sceptics would argue that it is nothing more then cigarette smoke, mist, fog or breath that is observed which is probably true in most cases.

It is very rarely seen with the naked eye but usually noticed in photographs; mainly digital, a possible explanation for this is that digital cameras can record a wider spectrum then is visible to the eye, although it is quite often simply the photographers own breath caught by the camera flash.

These mists are also reported to vanish if exposed to bright light which is said of a lot of paranormal activity, A theory for this is that bright white light being of a high frequency destroys the energy rather like camera flash can be harmful to a painting and its use forbidden in some museums.

This is why paranormal investigators tend to use red lights during vigils as it is of a much lower frequency and less likely to be disruptive to spirit activity.
