WHAT IS EVP?
EVP stands for Electronic Voice Phenomena and is a process
of allegedly recording the voices of the dead onto audio tape.
These voices are not heard at the time of recording but rather
when the tape is played back.
This type of work is carried out by most paranormal groups which
use a variety of different recording devices such as audio tape, digital and mp3 players but they all do the same job.
The individual carrying out this type of work will usually ask several questions and ask for the ghost / spirit to answer; a pause is given after each question to allow the spirit to answer.
Many paranormal groups have reported great success with this type of work and EVPs can be listened to on some of their websites.
EVP is not a new thing in fact it goes back to around World War One, Thomas Edison was working on a device to contact the dead, but died before ever completing it, however he started something which would catch on some forty or so years later.
In 1959 A Swedish man called Jurgenson Raudauve was recording bird calls.
When he played back his recording he was said to have heard the voice of his dead mother along with other voices of the deceased.
Ever since then the interest has grown and in 1960 studies were carried out by the Vatican into EVPs as well as many paranormal groups which still continues today.
Many sceptics would argue that these voices are simply down to an over active imagination and they are everyday sounds which are being mistaken for spirit voices.
Another theory is that the recording equipment is picking up stray radio waves.
There are many arguments for and against this type of phenomena’s validity, which cannot be proved either way, however the real truth still continues to elude us.
